Changshatou is a 10 MW Hydropower Project, developed by Yichang Changfeng Development Co., Ltd. It is located in Langping Town, in the Hubei Province of China. Water resources of the Langping River are utilised to generate electricity, delivered to the Central China Power Grid (CCPG) through the Hubei Power Grid (HBPG). The project supplies to the grid approximately 33.9 GWh annually.
Secondary benefits
- Create short-term and long-term employment opportunities during construction and operation period of the project for the local population.
- Contribute to local economy development by providing electricity to meet the increasing energy demand.
- Fulfil the increasing demand of energy by local industries.
Standard
This project is registered as small scale Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project as of 20 October 2008, with registration number 1962. The emissions reductions occurred between the start of operations and the CDM registration date are claimed as Voluntary Carbon Units (VCUs) under the Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS).
Baseline Methodology
The baseline was determined by the approved methodology AMS-I.D. “Grid connected renewable electricity generation” (version 12). The baseline was validated by accredited designed operational entity SGS. The VCUs are currently under verification by SGS.
Additionality
The additionality is demonstrated using the “CDM Tool for Additionality”. The barrier analysis method was chosen and was validated by SGS.
Why we purchased it?
The project was approved under the UN CDM, which ensures rigour in the validation, approval and registration process. Vintages prior to CDM crediting period were additionally screened against the VCS by the verifier. We also purchased Certified Emission Reductions from this project for later vintages, since we are project participant in the small scale CDM project.
